ATTRIBUTED TO ANGIOLO BARBETTI, FLORENCE, DATED 1859

Angiolo Barbetti (1803-1880) was a Florentine cabinetmaker renowned for the intricacies of his wood carvings, many of which revived the elaborate decoration of Italian Renaissance furniture. This pair of mirrors can be attributed to Barbetti on the basis of comparisons to other works by the maker including a console table and mirror shown at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London and today in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (24-1851) which are enriched with carved arabesque panels similar to those on the frames of the present lot.
