The serpentine shaped brocatelle d'Espagne marble above a panelled frieze set with floral marquetry reserves fronted by a drawer, on cabriole legs with pierced foliate rocaille clasps, joined by an 'X'-shaped stretcher with an urn finial, stamped 'MAISON PRETOT / & CIE / PARIS'

Lot Essay

Hyppolyte-Edmé Pretot (1812-1855) was born in Paris and established workshops at 16, rue de l'abbaye in 1836; 11, bis, rue Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1841; and from 1846 at 3 & 5, rue de Harlay. He exhibited at the 1849 Paris Exposition Nationale and at the 1851 London Great Exhibition, where he obtained a medal for hardstone-mounted furniture.
