The censer is cast with a rectangular body supported on four cabriole legs and applied on the narrow sides with two arched handles with open rectangular panels. The four sides of the body are each embellished with gold inlay to depict peacocks amidst blossoming peony flowers and leafy tendrils all within key-fret and leaf lappet borders. The openwork cover is similarly decorated and surmounted by a circular finial. The base is inlaid with an apocryphal Xuande six-character mark.
