A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER HEXAGONAL INCENSE BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The top of the cover is carved with a scholar standing beneath a pine tree greeting another scholar seated inside a pavilion, against two depths of diaper grounds representing ground and air, above two bands of cartouches enclosing floral sprays, the sides of the box are similarly carved.
3 1/8 in. (8 cm.) long, Japanese wood box
