拍品專文

These plates depict ships from the Dutch fleet which took control of the territory in 1652. Table Bay was the midway point in the six-month trip between Europe and Canton made by both Portuguese and Dutch traders during the 18th century. A very similar single plate from the Peter H. B. Frelinghuysen Jr Collection was sold at Christie's, New York, 24 January 2012, lot 38; and another, from the Benjamin F. Edwards III Collection, sold in the same rooms, 26 January 2010, lot 7.
