On 12 May 1837 Georges-Alphonse Jacob supplied for the 'Salon de famille' of the Grand Trianon: 'une table de famille en acajou, le dessus avec un drap vert, huit tiroirs fermant avec serrure différentes, pieds à consoles, griffes. diamètre 5 pieds-450 francs' (a 'table de famille' in mahogany, the top lined with green fabric, with eight drawers each with separate locks with different keys, with shaped legs terminating in paw feet, diam. 5 'pieds' - 450 francs). Designed with a lockable drawer for every member of a family they were a great success and even the royal family adopted this model with King Louis-Philippe ordering one for each of his residences. They were ordered in different sizes, and a varying number of drawers, with at least two tables delivered with a diameter of 114 cm., including the present table and that in the Grand Trianon (Inv. T48C), a larger table with 128 cm diameter in the Grand Trianon (Inv. T82C), and with one of the largest model, featuring a top of 162 cm diameter, conserved in the Petit Trianon (Inv. T2639).
