Lot Essay

The present box is based on the Krönungsservice (Coronation Service) of 1733 and was likely reproduced around 1860 in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Meissen manufactory. See R.E. Röntgen, The Book of Meissen, Atglen, PA, 1996, p. 125, fig. 68 for a Meissen mid-19th century price list of articles including a line drawing of this model.
