Nelson Dawson trained as an architect, but studied enamelling under Alexander Fisher. He taught his wife Edith to enamel and she produced enamels for jewellery and objects at his workshop from 1893.

The enamel plaque in this lot depicts Saint Simeon Stylites who spent thirty-seven years living on a platform on a pillar.
