These brackets conform to Thomas Chippendale's 'Brackets for Busts' pattern, originally issued in his first edition of the Director (1754) and reproduced in the 3rd edition of 1762, no. CLX (left design). The original drawing is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum (20.40.1, leaf 80).
