Lot Essay

This wine-cooler is modeled after a distinguished group attributed to the London carver and gilder Samuel Norman (active 1746-67) of King Street, Soho. A similar example from circa 1765 was sold from the Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Christie’s, New York, 11 December 2014, lot 36 ($106,250)
