Rectangular, with gadrooned border, the cover with acanthus and lion's-head handle set with an heraldic estoile, each cover engraved on both sides with coat-of-arms, the dishes with crests, marked on dish, cover and handle

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Shiffner quartering Jackson with those of Bridger in pretence, as borne by George Shiffner (b. 1762), created 1st baronet in 1818. He married Mary, daughter and heir of Sir John Bridger, in 1787.
