“As a young boy growing up in Leeds I had a stammer and had to think carefully about constructing sentences I could speak without stumbling over certain words that were difficult to pronounce. I used to go to the library and be fascinated by the Wonder Books of Knowledge and their curious faded photographs and even more curious title headings. GREY HORDES OF THE INVADER SWEEP ACROSS BELGIUM being just one example. Instead of clarifying things these books only served to add more mystery to life. My print is an homage to those days".
Glen Baxter (born in Leeds, 1944) studied at Leeds College of Art from 1960-5. Baxter has exhibited internationally and has published numerous books, most recently Ominous Stains in 2009. It was at art school, through the work of Andr̩é Breton that Baxter first discovered Surrealism, his passion in life, manifested in his art.
