Lot Essay

Ma Shaoxian, the nephew of the renowned inside-painted snuff bottle artist Ma Shaoxuan, likely worked with his uncle in the family workshop producing bottles to be sold with his uncle’s signature. From around 1899 to 1932, Shaoxian only sporadically signed his own name. Upon the retirement of his uncle, Shaoxian used his own signature.
