YONGZHENG-QIANLONG PERIOD, ZHIYUAN TANG ZHI MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE (1723-1795)
The bowl is decorated to the exterior with two sinuous five-clawed dragons amidst scrolling clouds and flames, above a stylised band of waves encircling the foot.

Lot Essay

Compare the current bowl to a similar example, dating to the Qianlong period, which sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 29 May 2013, lot 2267.

The mark Zhiyuan Tang Zhi may be translated as 'Made for the Far Distant Hall'. This hall mark is recorded as having been used for a number of blue and white bowls of dragon and clouds design dating to the Qianlong period.
