A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF TSONGKHAPA (1357-1419)
18TH CENTURY
The figure is seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base with his hands in dharmachakramudra, with lotus stems rising at both shoulders supporting the Sword of Knowledge and the Book of Wisdom. He is clad in heavy robes with incised hems and his head is topped with a cap.
6 ½ in. (16.5 cm.) high
Provenance
A private Swiss collection, predominantly acquired in France in the 1980s and 1990s.
