The censer is carved with two upright handles, the sides are deeply carved with rows of raised nodes separated by protruding flanges, all below a band of kui dragons. The pointed feet are carved in an archaistic style, emanating from four tiger heads. The stone is of an even tone with russet veins.

Lot Essay

A very similar celadon jade fangding with additional shou character decoration, dated to the early Ming dynasty (1368-1644) is in the collection of J.H. Smyth-Pigott, Esq., illustrated by Stanley Charles Nott in Chinese Jades Throughout the Ages, London, 1936, pl. XXXVI.
