EDO PERIOD, LATE 17TH CENTURY
The pair decorated in iron-red, black enamel and gilt on underglaze blue with panels depicting cranes beneath pine, divided by chrysanthemums on a gold ground, the upper part with lappets of flowers and foliage, panels of plum and flower heads to the everted rims; the other vase decorated in iron-red, green, aubergine and black enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with mythical creatures, butterflies, pine and cherry blossoms, bordered by brocade designs
The pair: 23½ in. (59.7 cm.) high; the other 23 in. (58.5 cm.) high
