One horn with a sand-shaker, the other an inkwell, with two brass candle-holders, above a frieze drawer, with silvered metal plaque inscribed 'Sir Walter Scott's given by Mrs. Hope Scott of Abbotsford to E.H.F. Nichol, 1857'; together with an Empire style gilt-metal bouillotte lamp, late 19th century

According to the plaque: Sir Walker Scott (1771-1832) and by descent to his granddaughter Charlotte Hope Scott (1828-1858) by whom given to E.H.F. Nichol in 1857.

Charlotte Hope-Scott (1828-1858) was the granddaughter and eventual heiress of Scottish poet and novelist Sir Walter Scott Bt. (1771-1832). She inherited her grandfather’s country house Abbotsford in 1847, and lived there until her death.
A similar inkwell was in the collection of John Hardy, sold Christie's, London, 22 March 2014, lot 1001.
