Albumen print, 170 x 110mm including the mount, Shapiro’s elaborate imprint in gilt on the verso, Tchaikovsky’s inscription in dark ink in the blank margin under the image. (Light soiling and minor wear to the edges.)

A FINE PORTRAIT OF TCHAIKOVSKY AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS SUCCESS, INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE GREAT RUSSIAN COMPOSER. The recipient, Andrei Andreevich Nigof (1856-1920) was a renowned flautist, who played in the orchestras of the Kiev Opera, and of the Mikhailovsky and Marinsky theatres.
