Lot Essay

Catharina Johanna van Houten (1869-1962) was a niece of Sientje Mesdag-van Houten and Hendrik Willem Mesdag. After Sientje's death Mesdag bequethed Panorama Mesdag to his 33 nephews and nieces in 1910, in a structure of a 'Naamloze Vennootschap'. Louis Marie Rollin Couquerque (1869-1960) who was Catharina's second husband was, as the husband of a shareholder, for many years the chairman of the board of Panorama Mesdag. In this capacity he published Het Panorama Mesdag te 's Gravenhage: historisch overzicht van wording en voortbestaan in 1947.
