Augusto Moglia, was a member of a family of micromosaic artists in the Vatican workshop. The letters R.F.S.P. stand for Reverenda Fabbrica Sancti Pietri. A mosaic attributed to the artist in the Gilbert Collection is in the Victoria and Albert museum. See Jeanette Hanisee Gabriel, The Gilbert Collection. Micromosaics, 2000, No.67 p.126. For a table-top or panel with the same Romulus and Remus composition derived from a painting by Sir Peter Paul Rubens, see No. 97, p.165. The author refers to two table tops in the Hermitage with similar compositions.
For similar unsigned mosaic panels see 19th Century Furniture, Christie's London, 27 September 2007, Lot 33, and The Opulent Eye, London, King Street 11 March 2015, Lot 7.
