The partly openwork top with four leaf straps supporting a pierced frieze of fruiting vines, the four conforming leafy branches each supporting a cut-glass dish centred by a larger glass dish en suite, on a tapering base chased to each corner with a vertical band of overlapping leaves, each of the four panels engraved with arms for Buxton and inscribed The Alliance British and Foreign Life and Fire Assurance Co. to Thomas Fowell Buxton M.P., in acknowledgement of Parliamentary services 23 June 1824, contained in three-tier metal-bound wood trunk lined in green baize
