The Lazarevs, also known as the Lazarians, were an old wealthy family of Armenian descent. After moving to Russia in the 18th century, the Lazarevs quickly became famous thanks to their successful silk production at the Lazarev Fryanovskaya Manufactory. The Lazarev family built a large number of Armenian schools and educational centres, including the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages in Moscow established in 1815.
