LOTS 1281 — 1305 PROPERTY OF EDWIN I-LI WONG AND MADAME WONG PAO PUI LI Mr. Edwin I-Li Wong (1932-2009) was a successful entrepreneur and a lifelong supporter of the arts. Originally from Shanghai, Mr. Wong had a particularly keen eye and fondness for early 20th century painters from the regions of Shanghai and Jiangsu Province. He was an avid collector starting from the 1960s and was an accomplished calligrapher by his own right. Some of the collection was acquired directly from the artists during his travels to China with his wife Mrs. Wong Pao Pui Li (born 1944), an acclaimed soprano and beloved voice teacher. Four Chinese classical paintings and calligraphy will be sold in our saleroom on 30 November 2015 (Lots 984-987).

Born to a family of scholars, Guo Chunpu, graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, eventually becoming a renowned tenor singer. He moved to Hong Kong, where he began to study and work in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. Guo also enjoyed collecting paintings and became well-acquainted with many artists.
