A LARGE CARVED BAMBOO ROOT 'CHILONG' VASE AND COVER
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
The vase is in rectangular cross section, carved on each side with a crouching chilong with protruding eyes, gaping mouth, single horn and long sinuous body terminating in bifurcated tails. The cover is carved with a coiled chilong.
