A BAMBOO CARVING OF SHOULAO
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The bamboo is well carved in the round as Shoulao seated on a rocky boulder, clutching a fruiting peach branch in the left hand and the other hand patting the head of a recumbent deer, the large bald head with a characteristic protuberance, his mouth agape to provide a smiling expression.
