shaped rectangular box of amethyst quartz, with waisted sides and incurved corners, the cover and front side overlaid with pierced gold cagework depicting a putto beside a dolphin cascade within a rocaille cartouche and an eagle and a squirrel within scrolls, reeded gold borders with slightly raised vari-colour gold sablé thumbpiece chased with a bird seated on a branch
