MAKER'S MARK J T F, GENEVA, CIRCA 1810, THE FLANGE STAMPED WITH INVENTORY NUMBER 44 AND TWO POST-1864 IMPORT MARKS FOR FRANCE
rectangular box with canted corners, the cover and base set with panels of dark-blue enamel over sepia depicting butterflies, a swan and a serpent , the sides set with similar enamelled panels over an engine-turned ground, the cover set with an oval enamel plaque depicting the punishment of Cupid, Venus with her raised hands holding a bunch of roses with which to strike him, within a seed pearl frame, taille d'épargne opaque white enamel outer borders and side pilasters set at intervals with gold lozenges and fluting
