Cylindrical, on three ball feet, with scroll handle and bud thumb-piece, the sides engraved with flowers and inset with oval enamel plaques, one allegorical of land 'terra', another of perfume 'odoratus', one after a print published by Joos de Booscher, and with a foliate wreath surround, the cover chased with flower-heads and foliage around a later portrait medallion of Emanuele Philiberto, Duke of Savoy (1553-1580), engraved underneath with initial 'A', marked underneath

Joos de Bosscher (d.1587-1591), a Dutch print maker was based in Amsterdam and published engravings after Jacques de Gheyn II of designs by Karel van Mander and were in stock of the print dealer Cornelis Claesz in 1609.
