Each shaped circular and with gadrooned rim, engraved with a coat-of-arms below a duke's coronet, each marked underneath, further engraved with a scratchweight, the second course dishes '35"11' and '36"4', the dinner plates, five '18"0'; four '17"10', two '17"15' and one '17"5'
the second-course dishes 12 in. (30.5 cm.) diam.
the dinner-plates 9 5/8 in. (24.4 cm.) diam.

The arms are those of Graham quartering Montrose for James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose (1755-1836). He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. Among his appointments were Master of the Horse, Lord Lieutenant of Stirlingshire, Captain General of the Royal Company of Scottish Archers and Paymaster General. He was made a Knight of the Thistle in 1793 and a Knight of the Garter in 1812.
