This pair of furnishing vases are copies of a pair of Charles II examples made by Thomas Jenkins, London, 1675. That pair, along with a pair of pear shaped examples were both exhibited by the leading dealer and manufacturer Crichton Brothers in The Loan Exhibition of Old English Plate held in 1929 at Sir Philip Sassoon's house on Park Lane. Crichton made copies of both pairs including the present lot and the pear shaped examples which were sold Christie's, London, 30 May 2012, lot 402. The original vases, which together weighted 118 oz., were most recently sold by a Nobleman at Christie's, London on 26 November 1980, lot 117.
