With silk lining and velvet exterior, the box pierced and engraved with scrollwork, two glazed ovals to the lid, one internal and the other external, each containing a lock of hair, 3 ¼ in. (8.3 cm.) x 2 ¼ in. (5.7 cm.)

Lady Shelley, a famous horsewoman and almost certainly sometime mistress of the Duke of Wellington, accompanied the Duke at a great review of troops at Paris in 1815 where she was allowed the honour of riding his charger Copenhagen.
