With rebrowned 29 ¼ in. (74.3 cm.) twist sighted barrels, scroll engraved tang and bolted locks, the latter each retaining traces of original case-hardened finish, figured walnut half-stock, engraved iron mounts including hinged patchbox-cover retaining traces of original faded case-hardened finish, and brass-mounted ramrod serial numbered to the rifle, London proof marks, in original brass-cornered fitted oak case lined with green baize, with some accessories including two bullet moulds serial numbered to the rifle, with original leather outer

Lot Essay

Unsworth notes that this rifle, along with its pair 6028, was purchased by Col. Farquharson of Invercauld on 9 August 1861. The cost of the two rifles, individually cased, was £168. 0. 0. Number 6028 is also extant and was illustrated (Col. Plate 46, plates 83-6) and described (pp. 98-101) in Unsworth's book.
