With blued 39 in. (99 cm.) barrel sighted to 900 yards, case-hardened lock, figured walnut three-quarter stock with chequered grip and fore-end, the butt with silver presentation plaque, brass mounts, blued barrel-bands, ramrod with S.W. Silver & Co. hard rubber guide, and much original finish, London proof marks, in black-painted wooden transit chest with worn period textile slip and retailer's label of Samuel Higham, Oswestry

The plaque inscription states: '15th Shropshire Rifle Volunteers / This Rifle Was Won By / Corp.l Wm. Thomas / as the Best Shot at 200 & 400 Yards / 26th Oct.r 1861'.
