A NORTH EUROPEAN BACK-SWORD
DATED '1661'
With 34 ¼ in. (87 cm.) fullered blade with notched back-edge at the ricasso and etched on each side with a portrait of a gentleman, Latin inscriptions and scrollwork, iron guard of rounded bars with cushion-shaped mouldings, pierced plates inside the side-rings, spirally fluted wooden grip, and incised plummet-shaped pommel
