Lot Essay

Mrs. Thatcher wore this suit for the cabinet photograph taken in the Downing Street garden in July 1990. The photograph accompanying the suit shows the members of her cabinet as it stood during the last summer of her premiership. Mrs. Thatcher also wore this suit for a press conference, where she was questioned about her thoughts on Sir Alan Walters’ suggestion of an alternative
to the Hard Ecu called the 'Thatcher Standard'.
