Sale room notice
Douglas Kinnaird served briefly as MP for Bishop’s Castle from 1819-1820. However he is best known as the close-friend and banker of Lord Byron, who he advised on business matters and also ordered the notorious destruction of Byron’s memoirs in 1824. This painting is after the original by J. R. Smith in Bishop’s Castle Town Hall.
