The beast reclines with all four hoofed feet tucked under the body, which is covered overall in fine scales. The bearded equine face is turned to the left and has horns at the center of the head backed by a mane of flowing hair.

Compare the very similar recumbent bronze figure of a mythical beast, described as a paper weight, of slightly smaller size (6.4 cm.) and also dated to the Ming dynasty, in the Robert H.
