Lot Essay
It is extremely rare to find this type of stylized floral medallion decoration on a jade snuff bottle. Similar floral medallion decoration can be seen on a series of famille rose bowls from the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods, such as the Qianlong-marked pair sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 7 July 2003, lot 586. The elegant, high-shouldered shape of the present bottle compares favorably to a series of jade vase-form snuff bottles made for the court, such as those illustrated in Snuff Bottles from the Collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1991, p. 151, nos. 124-26, and p. 155, nos. 134-35.
