Lot Essay
The aesthetic unity of the mounts with the porcelain suggests they were designed specifically for this wine pot and display the distinctive personality associated with the oeuvre of Jean-Claude Duplessis, orfèvre du Roi and artistic director of the Vincennes and Sèvres porcelain factories. The tight control of the symmetrical scrolls of the base is typical of the ornamental vocabulary Duplessis developed at Vincennes and Sèvres and is seen on vases produced there from circa 1755-1765. The refined chasing is also typical of Duplessis’s work, with a variety of surface finishes that create an impression of naturalistic, organic fluidity.
