Né en 1885 dans la Sarthe, fls d’un clerc de notaire, Maurice Loutreuil se découvre très tôt une passion pour l’art. Après avoir suivi des cours de peinture au Mans, il poursuit sa formation aux ateliers des Beaux-Arts de Paris, élève de Gabriel Ferrier (peinture) puis de Paul Beaudoin (fresque). Il s’initie également aux techniques de l’eau-forte et de l’estampe. Au début des années 1920, il fréquente Montparnasse et devient un membre important de la scène artistique parisienne.
Born in 1885 in the Sarthe region, the son of a notary clerk, Loutreuil discovered his passion for art at a young age. He first studied art in Le Mans and pursued his training at the Beaux-Arts in Paris where he was a pupil of Gabriel Ferrier (painting) then of Paul Beaudoin (fresco). He also trained at various printing techniques. In the early 1920’s he was part of the Montparnasse circles and became an important member of the Parisian art scene.
