MARLBOROUGH, John CHURCHILL, 1st Duke of (1650-1722). A 2-page manuscript order, 2° (12½ x 7½in.), dated 20th September 1705, to Major General Henry Withers, in a secretarial hand, signed: "Marlborough," for a general Court Martial of Lieutenent Colonel James Dormer for the killing of Captain John Pickering (split along folds, some soiling). Together with a manuscript statement, signed: "Geo. Smith" in his capacity of witness to the crime, describing the quarrel and subsequent fight between the Officers (browned, torn with slight loss). With 2 other 18th-century documents, one containing the secretarial signature of Louis XV. (4)
