6 volumes: comprising 5 text volumes (of 6, lacking third Moderne volume), 4° (250 x 198 mm) and atlas, 2° (505 x 330 mm). 4 folding engraved maps and 73 engraved plates by Auvray, Chenu, Le Bas, and Pauquet after Chevalier and Desmaisons in the text, including 4 double-page plates of coins in volume II, atlas with 38 engraved plates (issue without headlines), maps and plans after Lespinasse, Pauquet and others, including a large folding plan of St. Petersburg and 16 views, of which 8 are folding, 16 letterpress tables at end (6 double-page). (A1 vol.I with a few short tears touching letters, a few plates disbound vol.I, Histoire vol.II lacking 2 leaves: “Avis au Relieur” and the Errata, some scant spotting or browning.) Contemporary French mottled calf, text volume spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands gilt, tan morocco lettering-pieces in 2 (atlas volume rebacked preserving some of original spine, some light chipping and wear).
