4° (258 x 195 mm). 7 engraved folding maps mounted on stubs (some minor offsetting) and 2 folding tables. (A few pale stains or spots, a few leaves with mostly marginal creasing.) Contemporary half vellum, green paper-backed boards, green calf lettering-piece (some light rubbing, spine slightly soiled).
FIRST EDITION OF "THE BEST FRENCH CHRONICLE OF THE REVOLUTION" (Howes). The maps include a very fine depiction of the American coast from Georgia to New Jersey and another from that region north to Nova Scotia, and several of the West Indies, as well as the Gulf of Mexico, St. Kit's, and the Lesser Antilles. The folding tables list warships lost by combat, wreck, or capture, and the French officers killed or wounded. Howes L-166; Leclerq 827; Sabin 39613.
