6 volumes, 8° (190 x 120mm). Half-titles. Atlas with 17 engraved views engraved by Tardieu, and 9 engraved maps (8 folding). (Occasional mostly marginal staining, a few maps with short tears at gutter fold.) Contemporary mottled calf, smooth spines gilt, red and green morocco lettering-pieces (some light chipping, a few hinges starting). Provenance: C.F. Pruvost (bookplate).

FIRST FRENCH EDITION in octavo format. A fine set in fresh, clean and sound condition. Vancouver’s circumnavigation ranks in importance with that of Cook and of La Perouse, and produced the first accurate charts of the California, the Pacific Northwest and Alaska coasts.
