A helmet attributed to 17th century Deccan, probably from Bijapur and now in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, shows how the present nose-guard would have been placed on the front of the helmet (36.25.99). The crescent-shaped form of the lower part of the nose-guard appears to be typical of Deccani pieces. For other examples, see attributed to the 16th and 17th century from Deccan and South India see Robert Elgood, Hindu Arms and Ritual, Arms and Armour from India 1400-1865, Delft, 2004, pp.55-61).
