With its carefully pronounced details and translucent carving of Cupid's thinly veiled face, the present figure is a testament to the skill of its sculptor, Antonio Rossetti. Milanese by birth, Rosetti worked largely in Rome, and was known for his genre figures. Another example of Amor Secreto was sold at Sotheby's, New York, 23 October 2007, lot 36 ($21,250).
