‘I’m never very sentimental about my reliefs, but this thing did speak somewhat more to me than usual. At first I would have kept it myself, but I can’t keep my own things, so it was OK it went to London…. I hope it is a nice person who is getting the relief’ (J. Schoonhoven in a letter to Lucy Milton, 29 December 1972).
