The heavily cast model is of typical tapering form with inscriptions between six levels of cast reinforcing ring bands.

Lot Essay

A pair of very similar bronze cannons were sold in these rooms, 8 June 1987, lot 294.

The inscriptions state that these cannons were presented to the Viceroy of Zhili, cast in the twenty-third year of Daoguang, supervised by Yin Jiangong and Jiu Chengwen; Zao Jiangting craftsman. Gunpowder quantity of two liang and bullet quantity of two liang two qian.

One cannon belonged to elite troop number one hundred and eighty-eight, the other to elite troop number one hundred and fifty-three, both position thirty.
