Lot Essay

The inscription to one side of the scroll weight reading yan nian yi shou is a phrase relating to the wish for longevity and would be intended to bring long life to the owner.
The upper section of the wood stand contains a poem which eulogises the superior quality and angular shape of the jade carving, comparing it to the qualities and characteristics of a gentleman (jun zi).
The text on the lower section suggests that this was inscribed for the owner of the Hall of Ziyihuang.
